COURSES FOR HEALTH CARE

From hospitals to hostels, from Nursing homes to private practice, from home carers to Registered Nurses, Manutention is able to make a REAL difference in reducing the risk of manual handling injuries.

One thing that makes Manutention courses stand out from the crowd is that they are so practical and applicable. In the past, manual handling training often consisted of a Manual Handling "lecture" where participants might watch a video, and be told to how to lift safely, but didn't really don't do any hands on work. Whilst it is important to talk about the systems that support a safe work environment, AAMP acknowledges that Manual Handling cannot be completely eliminated from the workplace, even in a "No-Lift" environment. Furthermore, the AAMP also acknowledges that manual handling is a physical skill that takes time to acquire, just like learning to drive. Imagine if you could get your driver's license after attending a lecture and watching a video!

AAMP provides both accredited and tailored courses for all areas of Health Care. Courses are designed to fit within within the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF), and hence can be recognised nationally. All courses include a focus on the specific work environments in which the participants work, and if required, tailor-made courses can be developed for a specific workplace.

Manutention for Health Care Level 2
5 days - ()

Overview

This competency-based course has been designed to cater for the needs of people who work in the Australian Health Care System and are involved in people handling. The Course is designed to provide trainees with a practical method for controlling the risks involved in patient handling while operating within an Occupational Health and Safety legislative framework and 'no lift' / minimal manual handling policy guidelines. Graduates of this course can achieve a level of competency in patient handling that enables them to actively reduce the risks involved in patient handling in their workplaces.

The Australian Association of Manutention Practitioners acknowledges that manual handling is a skill that can be learnt. A degree of unlearning is also involved in this process, in that old unsafe work habits must be discarded. This 5-day course, divided into 2 modules, focuses on developing a new awareness of the principles of practical, safe manual handling. This includes developing skills in manual handling assessment and problem solving

Course Assessment

This course has been developed using Australian Qualifications Framework guidelines and is a competency-based course. The assessment process utilises a standards referenced framework that allows for grading of the assessment outcomes. Participants will be fully informed of the assessment process and the competencies expected within the simulated scenarios of the course environment. At this level there are 2 levels of competence. Competent participants may achieve competency as “Manual Handlers/Workers ‘ or ‘Workplace Coaches’ . A “Workplace Coach” may coach in a “one on one” situation only within their workplace.

.
Course Aims

The course aims to provide you with:

  • An overview of a participatory ergonomics based strategy for the reduction of manual handling injury in health care

    • Practical knowledge of how injuries occur

Course Outcomes

At the conclusion of the course, competent participants will be able to:

  • Discuss the relevant legislative requirements for Manual Handling
  • Apply the basic self-protective behaviours in a range of situations
